Ready to Go!
Rambling Fox 2026 is almost here - 106 teams and over 600 young people taking part; We hope you're as excited as we are!
There's a few important pieces of information I wanted to remind everyone of before the big day.
Team Information:
- Please ensure Teams arrive with all of the items on the kit list, they will be deducted points for items they don't have with them and may not be able to take part if they do not have critical items with them!
- Please be aware that emergency phones will need to have What3Words downloaded on to it and the team members will need to know how to use it! A reminder that we are now asking for 2 emergency phones per team.
- Please be reminded of the timings for each of the teams arriving with us and their expected finish times. Everyone will start and finish at Kibworth Mead Academy, Smeeton Road, LE8 0LG. Please arrive on time to allow the event to run smoothly!
- When arriving at the Academy, for parking, Shadow Walkers parking will be signposted and those dropping off walkers should follow 'Participants (Short Stay). The latter will need to be a very brief stay, due to the numbers involved, we will not be able to have people waiting in that area.
- Teams do not need a leader to be with them for kit check or to do anything during the day, however we do ask that someone is around while the team is gathering and while they go through initial check in. This can be a parent or helper, all they will need to do is make sure everyone arrives, have contact details for their parents/guardians and that they have any meds with them where relevant! They will then be free to go, and we have teams to manage from there onwards!
- Anyone who does not bring any medication which they have stated on their medical form as being needed during the hike will not be able to proceed to check in until this has been received. Please don't let this be you!
- Shadow Walkers - you have been sent guidance for your role in the event - please follow this carefully. You will receive a printed copy of your team's essential health form details on the day, as well as a copy of these instructions and a map with the route printed on.
- All participants should be are aware that this will be a NUT FREE event please - we do have a number of serious allergies on the event, so we do need to make sure all lunches, emergency rations and snacks are nut free please. If there is any food found during check-in that contains nuts it will be confiscated (and not returned).
- Some of our Jamboree Unit will be holding a fundraising stall from 11am onwards, raising money for those attending the World Scout Jamboree in Poland next year. They will be selling baked goods, sweets, craft items and more, please support them if you can, they will be taking cash and card payments.
- There will also be a large backdrop for teams to take their own photos at the end of the event to celebrate finishing the event - please make use of this! (Make sure you are aware of any young people in your teams who are not for photos before sharing online please.)
- Finally, we will be announcing the results in a pre-recorded video on the Leicestershire Scouts Facebook page. We will aim to post this around 2pm on Sunday 19th April.
Staff Information:
- All event staff should all now have received the full details of the timings, location, and equipment you will need for the day. IF YOU HAVEN'T RECEIVED THIS, PLEASE LET US KNOW ASAP! Please double check you know who out of your team is collecting the base packs and that you have all of the equipment between you that we are expecting you to provide.
- When arriving at the Academy, for parking, Staff Team need to follow the sign for Event Volunteers.
- Breakfast (bacon rolls) will be served between 8.30-9.30 at HQ for any event staff who would like this. Base and HQ teams will receive a pack of snacks as a small thankyou for the time you are giving us and please make sure that you come back for your hotdog at the end of the event! Everyone will need to provide their own lunch though please as we are not able to provide this for event staff.
- Bring a mug for hot drinks at HQ!
- The overall event Risk Assessment for the event, plus the Event Rules have been sent to the Team registration contact. Those running bases will already have received the activity RA for their base.
Rambling Fox 2026 Badge!
And we have our winner! Congratulations to Liv from Gilmorton Scouts for an amazing entry to our 2026 Rambling Fox badge competition. I hope everyone loves the badge as much as we do and are looking forward to the event on Saturday!
Be Prepared...
Some resources to help you prepare for the Rambling Fox 2026...
Kit List!
As an incident hike, Teams score points at different points through the day - and one of the first opportunities to loose points will be the kit check where the team will have to show that they have all the items on the kit list. Download your copy now and make sure you have all the items in your bag prior to check-in.
Practice Your Route Planning Skills!
As you prepare for Rambling Fox you might want to practice your Route Planning skills. This is the Route Planning challenge from the 2024 event. You'll need a map covering the area between Broughton Astley and Ullesthorpe.
Rules!
We encourage all Leaders and Participants to review the rules for the competition.
We hope you can make it! If you have any questions, please get in touch.
